A green card — lawful permanent residence — lets you live and work in the United States permanently. It is the goal of most of the families and workers we represent, and there are several paths to get there. Choosing the right path, and filing it correctly the first time, makes all the difference.

Family-Based Green Cards

If you are a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident, you may be able to petition for your spouse, parent, child, or sibling. The process generally begins with Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, followed by either adjustment of status inside the United States (Form I-485) or consular processing through a United States embassy abroad. How long it takes depends on the family relationship and the beneficiary’s country of birth — some categories move in months, while others carry backlogs of years.

Employment-Based Green Cards

Employers can sponsor workers for permanent residence, usually starting with PERM labor certification followed by Form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker. Some individuals — including workers of extraordinary ability — may petition for themselves without an employer sponsor.

Avoiding Delays and Denials

Many green card cases stall because of incomplete evidence, missed deadlines, or filing under the wrong category. Before anything is filed, we review your eligibility and map the full process, so you do not lose months — or years — on the wrong path.
